Starting at the age of five, her love for the Arts began. Makeda has performed in numerous theatrical productions, attracting the attention of veteran actors, such as the late Nelsan Ellis, who was brought to tears by her performance as Celie in the Color Purple. She has also played Dorothy in the Wiz as well as Billie Holiday in Lady Sings the Blues where she was awarded The Lena Horne Award for Best leading actress by The Black Theater Alliance of Chicago. Always the standout in any production that she is cast; Makeda Grier is a rising star destined for the Broadway stage. With each production, she garners high praise from audiences and reviewers. Her talents are not limited to just acting; she is often sought after by producers and artists to lend her amazing vocals to a wide variety of music and video projects. This vocal powerhouse is known for belting out songs with such raw emotions or soft melodic tones that you can’t help but feel them deep down. A very dedicated and determined Makeda channels her energy into pursuing her career in music, theater, and film. Recently adding cinema to her repertoire, she has co-starred in her first feature film, proving that there are no limits or boundaries to pursuing your dreams
